Tarkwa Bay is an artificial sheltered beach located near the Lagos harbour in Nigeria. Due to its island status, it is only accessible by boat or water taxis. The beach, popular with swimmers and water-sports enthusiasts, also has a welcoming resident community. Apart from the boat ride to the place which I found personally thrilling, this is easily one of the serene beaches in Lagos (depending on the season you visit). It wasn't as crowded as I ma assuming its cause of the fear of the boat ride getting to the place. unfortunately, people dump their left over food, plastic bags all over the place and it’s harmful to the ambiance of the beach. The Beach Is Loaded With Foreign And Indigenous Visitors. You can literally walk a long distance into the beach without drowning. Whenever I Want To Visit I Use Boats Around Lekki Axis. Some people Assist Foreigners To Hire Boats And Tour The Beach. Tarkwa Bay Beach is easily one of the cleanest beach in the marina axis of the coastal city of lagos. Due to its island status, the beach is only accessible by boat, the trip takes up to 40mins depending on which axis of the city one is boarding from. To this end i will advise intending fun seekers to make adequate arrangements for food and keep cash handy for boarding and access purposes. The beach is uber serene and packed with all sorts of beach-related activities including boat cruising and surfing. This place is corner beach where, two sides are covered by land, thus allowing only one side for sea water to come in and so there is little to feel tide here. Good because, it is safe. bad because, this place is nasty. People dump all their food packs, poly bags, plastics. Locals are there to collect money and give you a place to sit. come with your own food or stay for a 2 hour. There is regular boat service to this place under the Falomo bridge. you can get both reserved as well as shared speed boat. Tarkwa Bay is the kind of activity that takes up a whole day. You need to plan everything from feeding to transportation. I didn't do much when I got there because it was a sort of impromptu trip so I once had a native coconut and fed a couple of stray dogs on the beach, Visiting Takwa bay is the highlights of our LagosCity tours package. This 1hr boat rides to and fro gives us the panoramic seaside view of Lagos metropolis. This the one place I believe allows people the comfort, freedom and safety to bare all in pretty bikinis and shorts while banishing work stress to the ocean. We only allow sightseeing as such we do not leave the boat except one buys an exclusive picnic in...

My first time there and I simply enjoyed myself even when I didn't even engage in anything In particular 😂😂I just needed a break from work and wanted to be in front of the water.. One of the cleanest beaches in Lagos..
Let's start from where we boarded a boat down to the island, it was one of my smoothest boat ride ever and I loved it... Took a boat from cms which cost #800 per head cos it was a weekend, #500 if its a week day. .. The island is guarded/protected by the Nigerian navy which Checked in and checked out each boat that comes to the island ...
The gate fee at the island was #500, the only annoying thing was these area boys trying to make us give them money for no reason... The only turn off about this beach was the sitting fee which was priced at 3k for a start and we had a lot of back and forth before they agreed to letting us pay #1500.. They claimed most of the money went into keeping the beach clean and all
The water was soo clean and the waves really amazing..
They had many traders too, selling art works, crafts, swim suits, coconut drinks, food vendors amongst others... Most of them sold their food for #3000 (jollof rice, fried rice and chicken and chips)
I had the coconut drink..
It's a really great place for a group hangout or brach birthday party and different people rented cabanas to have their small party the day I visited..
Other side attractions are horse back rides and quad bike rides which I didn't try due to phobia...
I enjoyed myself but didn't stay till night...
I'll definitely...
Read moreThis is the second time I was there. The beach front was dirty, the water was dirty. This must have been due to the runoffs from the recent heavy downpour. Do not go there during the rainy season.
It was overcrowded, with a variety of weird looking individuals, young and old. It was independence day in Nigeria, a public holiday.
I didn't quite enjoy this visit, as I went with an unfamiliar crowd which wasn't a very interesting one.
I hope to go back with one or 2 friends and really enjoy the serenity on a weekday that isn't a public holiday. NEVER TAKE A FERRY TO THE BAY.
It dulls your spirit, as it is a long uninteresting ride and you get to the bay quite DEPRESSED.
I repeat, never take a ferry to the bay. If you can afford the white open roofed speed boats, by all means take them ( about 4000 naira for a trip I hear)
The cheaper speed canoes come at 500 naira per trip, this is a cheap and exciting way to get to the bay. They load at CMS and Bonny port side on the Island.
Take home points:
-Don't go during the rainy season, the beach will be dirty with debris on the beach front and dirty looking water (tea coloured) Don't go on a public holiday or weekend, but weekend will be better than a public holiday. -Go with an interesting group, people you can relate with and have fun with Don't go on a ferry, use a speed boat or speed canoe.
Finally, the locals who operate the beach are very exploitative, don't let them exploit you, haggle every price you are told till the last naira or till they tell you to "kindly leave the beach".
Have a wonderful stay...
