It's a very affordable place to take the kids for an informative and entertaining time. The issue is that the entrance is difficult to locate from the road, as far as I could see there are no proper signages Within all the old concrete tile flooring are broken and covered with algae, easy to stumble and fall All the cages are rusty and green, the labels detailing the animals rusted beyond recognition, most of the cages are empty You can't tell who works for the zoo and who is hustling you, a child going to a zoo for the first time will have fun but will soon start asking questions, an adult that brought a child won't feel relaxed, constantly worrying about your child getting tetanus from the cages or getting injured by the one 🐒 there or the representatives of the wild birds there not to mention being kidnapped But all and all there's hope for the future of the zoo as they still get patronage but as one guy that claims to work there said, they don't know what the returns they make to those in charge are used for It's the cheapest place for horse back riding Jin the state

This facility is not well maintained by the Rivers State Ministry of Tourism. There are just a few animals to see. Their habitats are not kept tidy. The zoo guide is a nice and friendly old man. Horse ride is available Mini Playground for kids is also onsite The Ministry overseeing the facility should put I more animals, upgrade the infrastructure, partner with private investors for restaurants etc &other activities that would make the place more fun.

Almost no animals… only a few monkeys, two tortoises, one horse, one peacock, two crocodiles, one eagle… no tigers, no Lions( except two electrocuted ones), no giraffes, no elephants…almost nothing… plus the environment is filthy, filled with weird crawling caterpillars, horse poop everywhere …a big disappointment…. Rivers State government should really look into this… I regret that we had to pay 500 naira for each person…,what a sham

Hmmmm.... First let me say this, the concept of having the zoological garden was cool but now it ain't so cool as the animals are unkept, lean and in a sorry state. There's need for improvement and possibly had it over to private firms. To hose traders along the fence and the gate should vacate and the environment should be cleaned. Sooooo many empty cages and the few animals there are not looking good, the lion looks like a goat without horns. The gate fee was too little that I got discouraged.no accountability. But still a cool environment, trees everywhere, horse rides, barbecue, playground for kids... Except for the animals well fare,it's a good place to relax...

Yesterday I decided to pay a visit to this talked about Port Harcourt zoo to my greatest surprise I was disappointed on seeing the state of the animals in the zoo and also the animal were not up to five as majority of the animals have gone into extinction due to the poor management on the side of the rivers state government. And I would recommend that a state of emergency be delacared in the tourism sector of the state which can serve as an alternative means of revenue as the oil prices dewindle by the day and which in turn achieve the MDGs by 2030 of zero carbon emissions for a sustainable...
