Me and my husband, who is originally from Stip, eastern Macedonia visited Mavrovo this weekend and we were amazed:-) We stayed at hotel Kalin in Lazaropole where they had half wild beautiful horses and very hospitable owners, and we went to Galachnik, saw the green covered fairytale like meadows where sheep were in the wild - and we went to do horse riding and watch the scenery from the village Janche. Just before that we visited the monastery St Jovan - not possible to describe with words! The very sad thing about Macedonia is the environmental disrespect. In the stream I found a bottle cap, in the woods - when taking a pause with the horses by a lovely little church - a left over fire place was full of used aluminium cans. When stopping with your car to watch the view you can be sure to see plastic everywhere. Now we’re in Ohrid and here you see plastic in the soil layers.
