S&S Winery - Ohrid — Attraction in Municipality of Ohrid

Where shall I start? Well right at the beginning I guess. I booked a tour and tasting of S&S and walked on a pleasant day in February. The winery is well sign-posted from the top of town and was a relaxing country walk. Don't rely on Google which says you cannot walk here, just walk to Sun Gate hotel and continue North. It's a good country path. I was slightly early and greeted by their neighbour who kept me chatting whilst the team arrived. In their great location they showed me around the winery and then started the tasting. The tasting was a tour-de-force of Macedonian culinary products accompanied by the correct wine moving upwards in the flavour profile. The whole tasting was completely awesome and the team were just so great to get on with. This is possibly the best wine tasting I've ever done (I've done many) and this will live long in the memory. Once you arrive at the place following an arduous journey you realise it was worth the effort. You are greeted by the wonderful owners who will immediately charm you with their story and their pleasantness. They are full with vigour and enthusiasm in building their dream and they extend this to you as well. The place is placed on top of a hill observing the Ohrid lake and is surrounded by trees and near vineyard. You will start your wine tasting with selection of white wines accompanied by snack that will perfectly match the wine. Goat cheese with home made fig preserve, variety of home made jams….Then the reds come, with home made cold cuts, smoked bacon, wild meat sausage, beef pastrami…. After two hrs you will be offered variety of digestives, wonderfully prepared red wine liquor with sour cherry leaves, schaps with wild thyme and one with donkey grass. We booked a wine tasting experience . When we arrived at the top of the hill by bike , my heartbeat was very high. The opening drink was refreshing We were sitting in the middle of te vineyard. At the start I didn't now what to expect, but everything I hoped for came out. The brothers were so kind and the wines are very tastfull. Everything they told us about the wines and the start of the company with there family really had influence of the tasting. The food platters are from very high quality. After the experience was done, we asked them of we could leave the bikes and booked a taxi for us. The day after when we picked up out bikes, they welcomed us so kindfull again.
