According to the archaeological data, we can say for sure that Kokino is the oldest ancient astronomical observatory on the Balkans. Kokino, an archaeological site from Bronze Age period and a prehistoric archaeo-astronomical observatory gain the attention of scientists and media since the moment it was discovered in 2001. Archaeologically tested and astronomically proved, this advanced community which settled Kokino around 1800 BC, used very complicated mathematical equations for observing the sky and the celestial phenomena. We are very lucky they left marks around the stones and rock in shape of markers while observing the rising of the sun during the summer and winter solstice, spring and fall equinox and many other things in the time when they lived.

If you’ve seen something in the world already, this place would probably not impress you that much. It’s nice, beautiful, in the middle of nowhere, it has a history (which is famous for)… It can be nice to sit there and relax, looking at the sky / mountains / clouds. But on my opinion it isn’t worth lots of efforts to get there. And the entrance costs 5 € for foreigners (I don’t understand what I paid for🤷🏻 - no transport, no even simple toilet ). The easiest way to get there is by car. Another way - to take a bus from Skopje to Kumanovo, and then another bus to tiny village Kokino (if you’re lucky - there are only two buses per day) and then walk up few km. Or you can take taxi from Kumanovo, which costs a bit more than 20€ one way

A beautiful place worth visiting. The road to Kokino is paved and good. After parking, it takes about 10 minutes to get to the site. The last time I was there, they charged me 60 denars for the entrance fee, and this time there was no one there. Maybe because I was there later in the day. One of the signs said that the ticket was 100 denars for adults and 50 denars for children. The place has a great view of the surroundings. It is best to visit at sunset or in the evening between August 12th and 13th, when the Perseid meteor shower is best seen from here. There are several information boards in Macedonian and English at the site. Each platform is marked and you will know exactly where you are in the place.

Edit: security guard left at 1700 30th of May. So maybe summer time he’s there until that time - I recommend going up after that, there will be nobody there to take your money :)

Before I went up there, I read the reviews. No way I was going to pay €5, so I acted stupid, only put 202MKD in my pocket and left the rest in the car. I said I don’t have 300 but here’s 202 and slowly counted out my cash. He looked at me for a minute and agreed to 180. The receipt says 3 x 60MKD. They basically charge foreigners 5x the cost of what a local would be. They get away with it because people are happy to pay it. I have to agree with most of the reviews on here. There is not much to see and trying to charge €5 is absurd. There’s no facilities. The road and parking are low quality. Great view from the top, peaceful and tranquil but the security and the fee are a bit...

This was one of the most expensive attraction places in Macedonia. Which was quite upsetting as there wasn't anything special to have such high price. Just a view over mountains. Being a huge traveler, I wouldn't say it was spectacular, definitely want worth the money we've been asked to pay.... Also, if you're lucky, you may not need to pay as there is just a guy sitting and waiting at the bottom to collect the money. I assume, he is not there 24/7, therefore, if you head to this place towards the evening then you likely will be lucky not to pay entrance. We arrived at around 3.40pm and the guy left 4pm. So, if we would've come 20 mins later, we would've gone in for free... There are no gate or any kind of locked up area.... Parking is...
