One of the oldest stavechurches, and one of the only existing using the Borgund style. Only the main ship is preserved, but it is stunning, and well worth the 5 min drive off the main road. Tip: spend a few bucks pn a guide, it's a very interesting story, and you support the preservation of the church.

Special. An old church next to a new one, build with the material of the old one that already, partly, was broken down. Nice young student who explained the history of the churches and the painting inside.

Torpo Stavkyrkje er av Borgundtypen med heva midtrom. Det et antatt at kyrkja er bygd rundt 1160. Innvendig skal kyrkja har totalt 16 stolpar og dannar eit midtrom med høgt tak og fire omliggande siderom/gangar. Før oppsettinga av den nye kyrkja vart koret i Stavkyrkja revet, materialet frå denne vart brukt i reisinga av den nye kyrkja. Portalane har vidunderlege utskjæringar. Det skal vere ei runeinnskrift på ein planke funne i kyrkja som seier:"Torolf gjorde denne kyrkja - Åsgrim, Håkon, Erling, Pål, Eindride, Sjaunde, Torolf – Tore ristet – Olav". Rett nord for kyrkja er Torpo Nye Kyrkje reist.

Have not booked a relatively expensive tour inside but impressive on the outside due to its history. Great entrance. If you are around you should visit.

Torpo központjában árboc templom. A hátsó részét elbontották sajnos, mire a műemlékvédő megakadályozta a teljes megsemmisítését. A 12.században kezdték építeni, és kb 1250 körül fejezték be. Körülötte aktív temető, és egy emlékoszlop. A freskók épen maradtak. Mellette áll az új, nagyobb evangélikus templom. A gondnoknál időpont egyeztetés szükséges, mert nincs nyitva folyamatosan napközben.
