It is located in the village of Andenes at the northern end of the island of Andøya in the Vesterålen archipelago. It was established in 1859 and automated in 1978. The lighthouse was listed as a protected site in 1999.

Amazing experience! You can buy the tickets (100 NOK) at the nearby Polar Museum and Johannes will give you a tour with a lot of insights. Great view from the top of course. Lighthouse itself is beautifully made and the people running the place are super! They made hot chocolate and coffee for us when we came down and we chatted for a bit sitting on warm cushions around a fire in the snow....
