I recently had the pleasure of visiting Stegastein lookout in Norway & it truly took my breath away. The majestic beauty that unfolds both beneath & above eye level is unparalleled. Upon arrival, you instantly feel a sense of tranquility as you breathe in the fresh air while soaking in the peaceful surroundings. The view of the mountains & the ocean nestled between them is simply awe-inspiring. Simply gazing out at the scenery is a peaceful & calming experience. I highly recommend taking your time & truly savouring this magnificent vista. The drive up the mountain to reach Stegastein lookout is equally amazing, with numerous stops along the way where you can fully appreciate the sensory experience & capture stunning photos. It is advisable to drive slowly to fully absorb the scenery. The roads are narrow, so if there are buses or trucks passing by you will need to move aside & give way, which can be a little scary if you are not a confident driver. The memories & photos captured during my visit are truly incredible. I cannot stress enough how much I recommend visiting this place. It is an absolute must-see for anyone traveling in Norway. This was my second visit to Stegastein lookout, the first being 5 years ago. The incredibly breathtaking view remains unchanged, but unfortunately, I noticed that the lookout itself has not been properly maintained and is starting to show signs of discoloration & deterioration. It would be a shame if such a remarkable place were not given the attention it deserves. Read more at Raif & Vy Travel Blog.

Definitely worth a visit. To access here, there are several ways including 1) hike; 2) drive; 3) bus tour; 4) taxi. We have our camper van but we didn’t end up driving our camper van up there after reading all the reviews online. There are a lot hairpin turns on the way up and we felt our van was a bit on the large end therefore we don’t want to risk it. We joined a bus tour from Norway’s Best company. It was good experience. The guide stopped 3 times to allow us to see things on the way. Because we joined a morning tour, there aren’t a lot people on the lookout. So it is relatively easy to get photos without people on your background! FYI - we didn’t go there in summer peak season. We went in Sept after school started. So maybe it’s another story in peak season

We went at 1:00 on a Tuesday. The day was overcast. We’d been in Norway for over a week and had a lot of beautiful views. This one was nice, but the crowds ruined it for us. If it’s possible, I’d plan to either go early or late to avoid the crowds, and if you’re taking pictures be aware of other people and be quick. We had a family that backed everyone up by taking a ton of pictures with different combinations of people. Once they left it cleared up a bit per the photo, and then started getting crowded again when we drove away so it clearly changed every 5-10 minutes. You might want to wait 10 minutes if you get there and it’s packed.

I am not sure if I should give this 5 stars or 1. On the one hand, it has left me with the best memories from my Norway trip but on the other hand, both my wife and I saw our lives flash before our eyes and subsequently arrived sweating to the view point due to the terrifying driving experience getting to the point. Imagine this: you are in your camper van going up a winding, one-way road when you see the local bus speeding towards you. What do you do? Well that is what you will have the pleasure of figuring out on this wild once in a lifetime adventure. I'll give you a hint: lots of backing up and praying. Just make sure not to hit the sheep...
