The Viking Village in Gudvangen is a truly unique and unforgettable experience. Nestled in one of Norway’s most beautiful fjords, it feels like stepping back in time to the Viking Age. The setting is breathtaking — surrounded by dramatic mountains and deep blue waters — which makes the atmosphere even more magical.

The village is carefully reconstructed with authentic longhouses, workshops, and everyday tools, giving visitors a real sense of how the Vikings lived. What makes the experience stand out are the people: the guides and reenactors are dressed in traditional clothing and share fascinating stories about Viking culture, crafts, and traditions. Their passion and knowledge bring history to life in a way that’s both engaging and educational.

Visitors can try hands-on activities such as archery, blacksmithing, or traditional crafts, making it a perfect experience for families and anyone curious about history. The combination of storytelling, demonstrations, and interactive elements makes the village feel alive, not just like a museum.

Another highlight is that Gudvangen is also the starting point for scenic fjord cruises. From here, you can embark on a breathtaking journey through the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord — one of the most spectacular fjords in Norway. Combining the Viking Village visit with a fjord cruise makes for a perfect day of culture, history, and natural beauty.

Whether you’re interested in history or simply want to enjoy a unique cultural experience in stunning surroundings, the Viking Village in Gudvangen is an absolute must-see. It combines learning, fun, and adventure in one...

This was almost worth the entire trip to Norway! My daughter and I visited this Viking village last week. The reenactment experience was perfectly set up by our tour guide, Greg. As a student of ancient civilizations and of Norse mythology, Greg brought to life the culture, religion and daily life of the Norsemen of legend. The buildings' construction are accurate as are most everything we experienced there. We each were allowed to throw axes at huge wood targets, shoot arrows from a bow at stationary "game". After the tour we wandered about at our own pace exploring the village, interacting with the folks who were making articles necessary for daily living. A blacksmith and her apprentice, a candle maker, a cobbler, a young lady working a loom. There is a restaurant serving a variety of Norwegian food. (no mead) A great dining hall, a gift shop and very clean restrooms. I highly recommend this experience if you are a fanatic or have just a passing interest in Vikings. We saw young children with grandparents in tow so there is something for everyone. Don't miss the storyteller in the Jarl's home. We spent 3 hours walking about, interacting with people and taking photos. Don't rush through because this trip into the past is a wholesome fun for...

This Viking village wasn’t as great as I thought, but overall it was still good. The shop is mildly overpriced, I bought 4 magnets and one amber king - adding up to 540kr- but it is understandable as it’s a souvenir shop. I watched one of the Viking fights and it was quite entertaining. However, there are no information boards which meant if you wanted to know more you would either have to ask millions of questions or buy a guided tour. The activities inside the outdoor museum were free - and fun! Axe throwing was my personal favourite. I did notice that the visitors throwing spears accidentally threw the spears into the car park due to the poorly placed activities. The fence was too low for long, hard to throw spears. The food in the restaurant was delicious! The meat was brilliant quality but the pancakes I had were very eggy and the honey was very sweet, it’s not my taste but it’s probably somebody else’s. I enjoyed watching the blacksmiths work and answering peoples questions, as well as the music. There are also chickens and 1 sheep/ram there too.
