Runde Island or Bird Island is accessible by boat or car via a bridge. The island is known for it bird colonies with hundreds of thousands of pairs nesting every year. It is perhaps the best place to see North Atlantic sea birds in Norway.||||The Runde Environmental Centre has wonderful accommodations as part of it overall mission as a research center for birds of the North Atlantic. The facilities are first rate with large rooms, modern baths including heated floors, fully equipped kitchens, comfortable furniture, etc. The views from our rooms were spectacular.||||There is only one road on the island and it is short. This is a place for hiking, bird watching, photography, ocean and sky watching. There is a cafeteria with limited menu and limited hours, no stores, so bring food and drink. But if you are a birder like quiet, very few people and love nature...this place is for you. There are day trips by boat from Alesund. There is also a knowledgeable captain and his boat who tours the island, weather permitting. ||||Possibly, an experience not to be missed. We are not birders but enjoy nature and we will fondly remember our...

We had an absolute magical stay at Opplev Runde. The apartment was very light, spacious and clean and the staff was super friendly. ||In the afternoon we went coasteering, which was a real blast! Floating around in the waves, tasting seaweed and jumping off of rocks.. So fun! And I did not feel cold or unsafe for one second. ||In the evening we did a puffin safari with dinner, a documentary and exposition visit included. Our guide Johannes knew so much about all the birds and happily answered all of our questions. The food was great, the company even better and the puffins are just SO cute. ||The hike to the bird cliff was VERY steep at the beginning, but overall really doable. Having a guide with you really adds to the experience, because he helped us find the best spot to see them and we learned so much about the area and all the other birds too.||On our way back to the apartment we saw the most magical sunset with a double rainbow.. Probably the prettiest sight I've ever seen. ||We felt very welcome, did not want to leave and will...

This is a totally underrated stop. This place is a true all-rounder. You get accommodation, food and a museum. The museum teaches you about the birds of the area and - I guess most interesting for your children - about the 1725 sinking of the Akerendam ship and exhibits the uncovered treasures. The food was really good! They have gluten free meals and something you may have never tasted before: goat ice-cream - and most interestingly brown goat cheese soft ice-cream. Yes, you read that right! It was delicious. So for anyone who are lactose intolerant, this is your place! They also sell lovely wool jumpers and a great yellow fisherman hat that prevents you from getting your head and neck wet. We still regret not having bought it. A must-have for Norway!

Room with ocean view, kitchen, bathroom, very nice and helpful staff, a store with puffin souvenirs awsome. IMPORTANT to note, there are no food stores on runde, best place to stop is fosnavåg, we saw about 5 different stores, if you rent an apartment on runde they come with kitchen, full size fridge, oven and kettle, so best to buy your breakfast food before you get here. There is also a very nice restaurant in fosnavåg
