Such an up close and personal way to get to know the life story, personality of Munch and be brought back in time to his home, studio and hideout when he wanted to be left alone and just paint or sketch.

We took the guided tour to the small house and adjacent studio where Edvard spent a large part of his life when he was an unknown to when he became famous.

He is best known for The Scream masterpiece but a visit here shows you the man behind the painting and how he lived - a recluse with a colourful life, just like his art. He lived simply, didn't keep his house and garden very clean, never married but had a few sweethearts. He didn't have a toilet and used an outhouse common to his time. His guestroom had the most uncomfortable bed as he didn't like his guests staying too long.

There are still sketches and some of his original artwork preserved here.

This was like visiting someone's house where you get up close and real and not a sterile museum tour.

Our guide was passionate and knowledgeable. She really brought the place and stories to life. The cost of the ticket and guided tour was very reasonable.

The location, (a little tricky to get to) is modest compared to the wealthy bungalows that has sprouted around. This was once a disregarded place for poor fishermen. But so generous that the family has donated the house to the city and they have preserved Munch's house and shared it...

Walk the Edvard Munch Way neighborhood and down to the Grand Hotel Asgardstrand, noting the signs connecting the neighborhood views to...
