We felt honoured to walk straight from the exhibition space to the factory floor and witness the many craftsmen working in synchronised teams to creating amazing glass items. There was fire and steam, strength and delicacy, ancient methods and modern tools. It was a (free) window into the skilled handwork that goes into this company's products.
After the amazing (free) workshop viewing, it feels churlish to complain about anything, but the exhibition space could have been better used to explain the glass manufacturing processes more. Also we have been spoiled by other museums in Norway who provide a lot more English translations than was done here. Read moreHadeland Glassverk was founded in 1762, still in the period of the union between Denmark and Denmark and has been making glass articles ever since. You will have the chance to see the glassmakers work. Perhaps even make your own glass item! Before the existence of the factory, this location was a farm and you still can feel that atmosphere in the air. The area is scenic, close to the fjord, surround by forest, children friendly and accessible to all. Worth to go and stay half-day, or even a full day, if you are not in a hurry. Great place for souvenirs and not just made of glass! You will find parking, toilets, coffee shops and restaurants there as well. If you don’t have a car, worry not. There is a bus going there early. Definitely...
Read moreTiny glassblowing studio where you can observe and kind of participate in glassblowing (for an outrageous price), but otherwise NO exhibition or even information about how glass is made and the long history of this place. Very disappointing. They’re more or less converted the old factory buildings into an outlet village.
The temporary exhibition (da vinci) was good but short. Food is serviceable, but only barely. For children glassblowing and horseback riding is the best options, but it won’t keep them occupied for long.
If you’re looking for just a stop along the way or for some discounted glassware the place might be worth a visit,...
