An obvious but seemingly effective exercise in trying to make people believe that salmon farming is not hugely damaging to the marine ecosystem.
The idea a salmon farm in the sea could be "sustainable" has repeatedly been exposed as ridiculous, but this "museum" continues to use the term.
This "museum" fails to detail the dangerous pathogens and diseases that are entering wild fish populations due to the operation of fish farms. It also neglects to tell visitors about the fish stocks that is taken from the coastal areas around poorer countries to make feed for farmed fish. There is also no mention at this "museum" about the fact waste and pollution from its operation dramatically increases the risk of algal blooms that choke our oceans, effectively creating "dead zones" in the sea, which is a major omission.
It feels like the shiny art installation floating in an otherwise beautiful fjord is designed to distract from these omissions. It is quite clear during the tour that information is provided very selectively and is entirely created to show the industry in a positive light. Hiring a talented and respected chef to run the insanely expensive restaurant is also part of this greenwashing effort.
Like oil and gas, fish farming has so much political and economic power in Norway, which is also not mentioned at the museum, which would offer a more comprehensive view of the industry.
Anyone who is taken in by this should be embarrassed - but I expect anyone with sense and decency will see exactly what's really...
