Two years ago we visited the northernmost point of Norway and continental Europe Nordkapp. Now we set out to change to the southernmost point of Norway Lindesnes Fyr. The cliffs of Cape Lindesnes extend from the North Sea at the southernmost point of the Norwegian mainland, 1,682 km by air, and 2,518 km by road, from Nordkappu. A hike around the cape through the landscape of mountains and lakes is amazing and accompanied by breathtaking views of the North Sea. Because of the location and good visibility of the Lindesnes Rock, the light of the lighthouse - 30 tallow candles at the top of the three-story tower - was lit here in 1656, for the first time in Norway's history. This was to make the very dangerous waters safer here. Today's lighthouse at Lindesnes Fyr was built in 1915 and also functions as an observation tower. You can walk up and from the top of the lighthouse, there is an excellent view of the rocky coast of Vest-Agder with its islets and cliffs. There is also a museum presenting the history of the lighthouse. Cape Lindesnes is the starting point of the legendary 2,500 km long route "Norge på langs" (Along Norway) to Nordkapp. It has an expeditionary character, and on foot or on skis takes 100-120 days. Read moreWhen leaving the main road to go to Lindesnes fyr, I recommend you do that at Vigeland (the road to the light house is clearly marked with a light house in the roundabout). This route is vey scenic as you drive a long the water, while the other way that take you trough Lyngør was soo long and boring. A free coffee or tea in the coffee shop is included in the coffee shop. There was plenty of free parking available, however I was there outside the main tourist season. The light house is very well kept, and we can climb to the top and enjoy a beautiful view over the ocean and archipelago. I can recommend a visit to this light house at the most southern point if Norway if you are in the area. Generally in Norway I used not to pay for "nature attractions", so I was surprised due to its cost 120 NOK to enter the area. Oh yes, I got one cup of coffee for that price... BUT the rest of the visit was perfect; beautiful view, ocean, exhibition "in the cave", nice people...

You can visit a lot of lighthouses here in Norway but this one is located on the most southern part of the country is one of the best! With its 350 years of maritime history, Lindesnes Lighthouse is a well-preserved and interesting cultural attraction for both locals and tourists.
The view is absolutely breath taking in nice weather! And if you go there in a stormy weather and you will experience something you will never forget!
Remember to bring proper shoes if you want to walk outside the paths or try some of the walking tours in the beautiful nature starting from the lighthouse area (ask in the gift shop for a map).
If you just visit the lighthouse for the day you pay an entrance fee of NOK 50,-. This gives you access to the top of the lighthouse tower (climbing 109 stairs), the exhibitions and the mountain hall where there are more exhibitions. Well worth the price!
