Spectacular. One of the most rewarding hikes we have ever done, the views at the top are breathtaking. The path is easy to follow if there is good visibility but it’s not easy terrain. Lots of big boulders, a little bit of scrambling and crossing passages of snow. A reasonable level of fitness is required, as well as suitable shoes. There is a tuck shop at the top but I think we paid about £6 for a can of coke!! Paying for the convenience! There is 125NOK toll road fee up to Spiterstulen, which it tracks by number plate recognition so don’t forget to pay! The car park at Spiterstulen advertises as 50NOK for day parking, when we paid we did not receive a ticket to display or provide our number plate…so make of that what you will. There are toilets, showers and drinking water at the start. As well as the lodge providing food and drinks, but we did not use this. Bring a plastic bag or something to slide down the snow passages on your return, great fun and so much quicker! It’s busy at the top but a nice atmosphere. We completed is in 7 hours, including an hour stay at...

We started the hike from spiterstulen. We stayed in Lom and drove to the starting point. The last couple of kms towards the parking, you would need to drive through very narrow road with lots of bumps. Meeting points are there to help multiple cars pass.

There are sufficient parking spaces. You need to pay a parking fee in the reception. Hike starts from the parking.

What to expect from the hike. Initial 1 - 2 kms, you will find lots of plants and nice hiking path. All well marked with T. We got distracted towards another route. The main hike is towards left. You have continuous elevation till you start seeing the first peak which is not the main one. You need to cross 2 peaks before you see Galdhøpiggen. Route all the way is rocky. Minimum 4 to 5 snow routes which are surprizingly easy to cross. Weather changes lot of times. Expect slippery rocks when wet. Going up is easier than coming down. Around 4 hours to the top and...

When you decide to walk Galdhopiggen from Spiterstulen you need to be absolutely sure about doing it. There will be millions of stones, not a single meter of flat mark. Some parts in snow. That’s easy. You will walk 1000 meters up. Bring food and water. Warm clothes needed at all times. Follow the red T’s. Small expensive kiosk at the top. No WC during the walk. Good shoes needed. Trainers as a minimum but go larger. It is a one way track, same track down again. You can also walk from Juvasshytta. Shorter over the glacier. Fantastic view on a clear day. Allow between 5,5 to 9 hours. We used 7,5 and are fairly...

Went on a hike there at the end of september. Weather was all nice and sunny. As a begginer of such hikes but physically active person it wasn't the easiest of climbs, but nothing too bad. I did feel my legs get exhausted at the end of it. I started from Spiterstulen and took about 4 hours to get to the top of the mountain and then much quicker to get down. The top of the mountain had huge wind with snow up to my ankles but the view was spectacular.
