Stavekirkes in Norway is a must see. Builded only from wood and decorated in amazing way. Only 28 such kind churches survided until our time, all are in Norway. One is in Poland in Karpacz city brought here from Norway in XIX centrury. But the Urnes church is the oldest one and on UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979. It is beautiful, really. You have to go inside and see it's decorations and fill the atmosphere. The guide was fantastic, he described us how the church was like at the very beginning. Thanks for this! The printed basic information is available in several languages and also in Polish! The best to get there is by ferry. On our way back we took the road on East and had amazing travel by Fv55...

Yes it’s a detour from your touristy route, but it is the oldest stave church in the country! Unless you want to continue with the romantic drive on the church side of the fjord, leave the car at the parking lot from where ferry leaves, it will save you money and the hustle. On the other side it’s a quite steep uphill (about 1 km). Ticket include guided tour ( because it’s a destination for the cruise hoards, there were two groups and it was quite crowded, so I did not wait for the guided tour and just listened to the bus guide). It is not enough just to look at the church from outside. It is so interesting to sit on the bench inside and image how it was done centuries ago while listening to an...

Nice quiet place. You can only enter the church with the tour guide. We bought the tickets for the tour and it was worth it. Parking is limited. Most if the people walk uphill to the church. You don’t have to come in the car, you can park your car before jumping in the ferry and then walk uphill.

It’s a short walk. The church is beautiful. The tour took us back in the 1130s and we really appreciated the history lessons. The tour lasted for 30 minutes. It wasn’t very busy in...

Its a really nice place to stay for a while. The church is beautiful with huge carving work ob the outside. There are 5 parking spots in front of the property ( at the café) you should take a lil hike after you visit the church itself. Please be aware if you're getting there by car: the road ( probably 12-ish miles) along the river is really narrow. Sometimes, you have to back up for several 100-foot. ( advanced driving skills are recommended) besides that fact....10 outa 10

This church is wonderful! We'll worth a visit. The staff provided a nice talk about the history, and were happy to answer questions. It was not crowded when we were there off season, but high season can get quite busy. There is a very small ferry that holds 8-10 cars, or you can walk on. Beware, you have to back the car on to the ferry! If you choose to walk, it not far distance wise, but up a very tall hill. Maybe 20 minutes walking with a fairly big incline.
