Wonderful heritage railway - the longest standard gauge railway in Norway. Beautiful location with gorgeous lakes and forests - and really interesting locomotives and rolling stock.
The special twilight train was incredible - well worth booking for. We also attended the gala the following day, which was fantastic.
My only criticism (which is not the fault of the railway per se) is the lack of public transport from Vikersund to Krøderen (even more so over the weekend). We arrived at Vikersund from Bergen by train, and had to get taxis to and from Krøderen (around 25km each way), where each taxi journey cost over £70.
So if there is the option for the railway to run a shuttle bus between Vikersund and Krøderen to arrive in good time for the first train of the day, and return after the last train of the day, then this would be a real bonus for people arriving at...
