A beautiful open air museum with a stunning river and waterfalls flowing through it. It hosts an interesting array of different homesteads and farm buildings from across the world, and when I visited there was an interesting art trail of artists that lived in nearby Nesbyen and were inspired by and painted the waterfalls and landscapes here....

I saw this for the second time now. Last time I saw this was in 1985. I like it even more now. Only the Staveloftet should be reason enough to go there. A kind of stabbur from 1340 !!! From the period before the Black Death. A lot of buildings have been added, and it is never boring...

Hallingdal Museum si avdeling på Nesbyen vart grunnlagt i 1899 og ligg flott til ved Rukkedalselva og gjev ein innblikk i lokal kulturhistorie frå 1300-talet til 1940-åra. Her kan du ta deg ein runde i utstillingane om foto og bunad i hovudhuset (per juli 2019) i tillegg til ei utstilling om krigsåra i Hallingdal (i eit av husa på friluftsdelen av museet). På friluftsområdet er det ei samling med hus, der i blant eit staveloft frå 1300-talet. Billetten kostar 80 kroner per person, men gjeld i 6 dagar og gjev deg inngang til Hallingdal museum sine 6 museumsavdelingar i Nesbyen, Gol, Hemsedal, Ål, Hol og Dagali.
