We were recently in Norway on a cruise and booked the Tromso by minibus and North Cape Sightseeing Tours. Both tours were excellent.
For Tromso, we were promptly picked up at the port and were on our way. We stopped at many lookout spots for picture taking of the breathtaking scenery. At one of the stops, Monika had a delicious snack of smoked salmon accompanied by a warm beverage. She was our driver and she had a guide, Viktor, who explained Norwegian history. Of course Monika added additional information when it pertained to her experiences. They both had a great sense of humor which added to the experience. Other stops included the dog sledding at Tromso Wilderness Center and the Arctic Cathedral. The former included another snack and beverage.
Sebastian was our guide for the trip to the North Cape. As we were departing the port, he informed us that we would be heading straight to the North Cape because of incoming weather. He advised us to walk around the exterior then do the visitor’s center and I’m grateful for that advice. After taking the scenic pictures, we headed inside to view the short film. Admission to the visitor’s center is included in your tour. Sebastian timed it perfectly because as we exited the visitor’s center, the fog had rolled in and you couldn’t see more than 10 feet in front of you. We had stops at a fishing village, a king crab stop and the Sami settlement. He also offered us a snack of dried reindeer meat.
Both tours were excellent and informative and I highly recommend them. Monika and Sebastian have many years experience in the tourism field and know how to deliver 5* tours. Their tours are unique and personal and the background knowledge they have from living there gave an interesting...
Read moreWe recently returned from a cruise to Norway. We had visited Norway before and knew that you find out way more about the land and the people who live there by taking independent tours. We discovered Blue Puffin and found that they provide tours in both Tromso and Honningsvag - two or our scheduled port calls. We booked tours in both places. In Tromso we had a wonderful day with Michael who took our small group through town and out into the countryside for a glorious day. He was very helpful and accommodating assisting with photos, answering every question and providing information about the country, city and places we visited. The next day we toured Mageroya with Sebastian visiting two fishing villages on the island, getting up close and personal with king crabs, visiting the North Cape and some other stops. North Cape was fogged in but Sebastian provided suggestions and timelines for what to do including how many steps to take to the globe monument, in case we couldn't see it in the fog! At the end of the trip we visited with Monika, the owner of the company. Everyone involved with Blue Puffin was kind, helpful and genuinely wanted to help us to better understand these two beautiful parts of Norway. They succeeded on all counts. Each of these trips went to more places and made more stops than the comparable excursions offered by the cruise line and they cost less. We highly recommend them and would encourage anyone to use their services when you visit Tromso or...
Read moreOur experience with Blue Puffin, a local, family-owned company, was exceptional from start to finish. They picked us up right at the dock and took us on a memorable tour around the island, showcasing charming fishing villages, a reindeer herder, the majestic Nordkapp, and even a fascinating king crab experience.
Our guide, who grew up in the area and returns every summer, brought a personal touch to the tour that truly brought the region to life. She shared captivating stories that added depth and dimension to our understanding of the area, weaving in reflections on her own life compared to those of her mother and grandmother.
Her narrative seamlessly integrated issues of origin, gender roles, and a deep respect for the fishermen and fisherwomen of the community. One particularly interesting perspective she shared was her experience of living under the midnight sun and then traveling to Europe, where the regular 24-hour day/night cycle was both intriguing and unsettling to her.
For a large group, her stories were a highlight, providing a unique and enriching view of the local culture and lifestyle. Blue Puffin’s tour was not only informative but also engaging, offering a well-rounded perspective on life in this beautiful and unique part of the world. Highly...
