Uvdal Stave Church — Attraction in Nore og Uvdal

Very pretty church dating from the 12th century. The decorations on the walls are incredible. Entrance is 100 nok per person (if over 16 years old). It includes a visit to the museum (some little cute old houses, 2 little playgrounds for the children, a cemetery and a “guided tour” of the church). For the guided tour, it must depend on the guide. Our was not really chatty - although he spoke English and so did we, but obviously he didn't have much to tell us about the church. Nice...

Leicht zu erreichende (1 km hangaufwärts ab der Route 40 gelegene), kleine Stabkirche (Eingang kostenpflichtig), die 2018 ihren 850sten Geburstag feiert und mithin wirklich, wirklich alt ist. Reich bemalter Innenraum, die beiden unmittelbar unter der Decke angebrachten Maskenköpfe könnten gemäß geraunter Andeutung der ortsansässigen Führerin Odin und Thor darstellen; Beispiele für aus Akzeptanzerwägungen forcierte bzw. konstruierte Traditionslinien? Weiterer Rückenriesler: Die sich unmittelbar rechts neben der Eingangspforte befindende, von kunstfertiger Hand gefertigte Schnitzerei, welche den sagenhaften Harfner zeigt, dessen Spiel selbst die Schlangen zu rühren vermochte. Das Kirchlein bildet Teil eines Freiluftmuseums, in welchem sich auch alte Speicher etc. bestaunen lassen. Spielt m.E. durchaus in derselben Liga wie die Stabkirche von Urnes, wenn auch letztgenannte noch ein wenig dunkler, schicksalsgegerbter und geschichtsträchtiger wirkt. The church and the buildings are extraordinary!!! Unfortunately not the organisation although the people were quite nice. We bought a ticket 5:20 pm and they said that they will finish by 6:00 pm.
