Stave church. At one time, there was 1500 of them in Norway. Then thay went out of fassion(1800's) and was replaced often with(at that time) more modern, warmer, more spacious and more easily maintaind churches. Today only 12 remain. Ringebu Stave church is one of the youngest, first built in ca.1200AD. Later a few minor additions was made. This is the largest remaining stave church as well, and it is still in ordinary use as the church of the area. It is a spessial feeling to see it close and in person. You feel the time, or timelesness. You can feel all the hundreds of years it has existed, and you are forced to reflect on how many different people from so many ages and eras has come here trough time. AIn peace and war time in happiness and sorrow. You can smell the church and the old matherial it's build of, maintained by so many generations.

On the website as well as on google it stated a closing time of 17:00, so this was a surprise. There was a post-it on the hours sign when we arrived, but nothing online indicating it would close an hour earlier than advertised.
