Greåker fort — Attraction in Sarpsborg

The fort is quite an impressing construction to have been finalised in 1905! Anyway it's in lack of historical information. Probably not very understandable for visitors from non-Scandinavian countries. Most of the tunnels of the fort, and all of them to the underground installations, are concrete-sealed and, of course, have been made completely unavailable to the public. To concrete-seal the entrances to the lower tunnels of this fort, dating back to 1905, is obviously perfectly understandable. Nevertheless, the historical facts about the use of these inaccessible underground tunnels, quarters and depots are missing. This kind of historical facts about such an old, erratic military installation can hardly be subject to military secrecy, and should therefore probably have been implemented to public...

Nice view over parts of Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad. Possibilities for barbequing and bonfires, some seating. Poor wheelchair accesibility....

Da fortene i Glommalinjen ble lagt ned etter unionsavtalen i 1905 og usikkerheten for angrep fra Sverige ble fortet bygget. Fortet ble bygget på et fjell med utsikt over store områder. I april 1940 ble fortet angrepet,men måtte gi opp etter to timer. Fordi om deler av fortet er murt igjen så er det mange steder som man kan gå inn,bla det lange geværgalleriet som omgir...
