Our family room bore an uncanny resemblance to what I imagine an average Norwegian prison cell would be like. The ambiance was a blend of bleak and blah, missing only the charming clink of iron bars. ||You'd expect an oven, but nope, just a boilerplate and a microwave that could probably double as a science project. Dining? Imagine a bar stool awkwardly huddled with a tiny table under the TV, as if hiding from the cold.|And oh, the cold! Entering the apartment felt like stepping into a freezer. The panel oven was more of a decorative piece, leisurely taking its sweet time to heat up. There was a contraption that looked suspiciously like a heating pump, but all it blew was disappointment and cold air.||Dreaming of a warm meal? Keep dreaming. The restaurant was closed on this particular Tuesday, leaving our stomachs as empty as the promises of warmth. Our neighbors, a lively bunch of party animals, seemed to have teleportation abilities, their raucous laughter sounding like it was right inside our room.||But let's not forget the positives! We had the misfortune of awful weather, so the ski lifts were a no-go. Hold on, that's not a positive. Well, not the fault of Sirdal Skisenter, at least. Read moreThis is the place with the chairlift, easy the best skiing facilities in Sirdal. If the snow conditions are good, you can ski from Tjørhom to Ålsheia going via Nystøl. If you are travelling with kids, drive left where the road splits and park at Hulderheimen. If you are travelling with more experienced skiiers, drive right and park your car next to the chairlift. You can buy tickets both places, but also online, wich is cheaper. Hulderheimen has a small, flat, free novice/learner hill, a bar and restaurant, rooms/flats for rent, climbing park and more. The parking by the chairlift has a ticket office and a pizzeria with various other fastfoods. If you need to rent skiis, the ski rental is in Hulderheimen.
