Rosslandsguden — Attraction in Sokndal

Rosslandsguden is a short walk from the parking lot. The only obstacle to seeing the stone head (the god) is a simple gate and a gentle uphill slope. At the top, there is a bench to sit on. Rosslandsguden (Stone Head) was discovered in the 1700s; it was found in a rocky area rich in archaeological discoveries, including two sacrificial vessels, a horg (ancient Norse cult site), and several cup marks. It is believed that Rosslandsguden was associated with the worship of Frey. Today, a replica of the stone head is located in Rossland, while the original is at the Jøssingfjord Museum...

Quite interesting historic monument. The place has a parking area and it is only a short 10 min walk to the ground. A little warning as the trip up to the monument can be quite wet as you are walking on mud and grass and it is short uphill walk.
