Must-do tour for any Svalbard visitor — a 3-hour deep dive into Svalbard geology, economics and 20th century history, with insight (and epic comic relief) from our brilliant guide, Anders — who read dozens of books, pored over historic videos and interviews, and compiled it all into a compelling narrative you can’t find through google, AI or any other single source. When he asks if you’d like to suit up in historic miner gear and crawl on your belly into the depths of a mine shaft, do it! (Unless you are truly claustrophobic. And then, when you’re in the mine, do not open your mouth in awe because you could wind up like my friend — with a mouthful of coal bits.) An unforgettable tour — and one of the best values of any Svalbard day trip. I only wish we could go further into this extensive mine, which was decommissioned in 1998. Highly...

We took the trip with quite modest expectations, but in the end, it proved much more than a simple visit to a museum. It is a real mine and, more importantly, a place where you discover the real life of the miners. Like our very knowledgeable guide, Camila best put it: without them, we would not be here. It is a must-see for anyone who wants to understand the amazing...

Great experience! Anders was an excellent guide — knowledgeable, jovial, and clearly passionate about the mine’s history. The tour is absolutely worth it and gives a real sense of what life was like in Svalbard and underground. Would love to come back one day and explore even deeper into the mine — there’s so much more to discover, but time will...

Our guide Camille was clearly very passionate about Svalbard history and knowledge about the mine. We had an in-depth lesson about the mining process and history before suiting up and heading inside. It was cold, but with a few layers and the provided coveralls we were fine. It was super interesting and definitely a must do when here!
