Today they had an open day. Great place, incredible history and the volunteers were full of information. Well worth the money for the guided tour. And if it's closed there is still plenty of stuff to see around.

Stordø Kisgruver er nedlagte svovelkisgruver på øya Stord i Hordaland. Forekomsten ble funnet i 1864 og en mindre virksomhet startet året etter. I 1907 ble Stordø Kisgruber A/S stiftet, og større drift kom i gang fra 1912. Etter tilbakegang og ødeleggelser under andre verdenskrig ble driften gjenopptatt med den norske stat som eier. Gruvene ble nedlagt i 1968. I alt ble det drevet ut cirka 8 millioner tonn råmalm med 21–23 prosent svovel. (Kilde SNL)

Fantastisk plats med mycket intressant historia. Volontärerna var väldigt informativa och gav även en guidning på engelska. Väl värt pengarna för den guidade turen med turen in i gruvan. Men om det är stängt finns det fortfarande mycket att se runt omkring. Väntetid ja, men då ställde en av guiderna upp och gav en rundtur i området. Det är upplevelser av den här typen som man kommer ihåg med glädje från en...
