We hiked this during a port day from a Cruise ship. Total trip from ship to the school to the point and back was 6 miles according to my phone. The first half is a paved road (almost no traffic) and then a nice gravel road. Last 200 yards is a trail that is a bit muddy but with careful step placement you can get through with little problem. If you rely on Google to lead your steps just know that it is off, your arrival per Google is about 1/2 mile short of the actual lookout, the trail is well marked so you won't have a problem finding it. Much of the trail is a fair incline (about 6-8%), my wife and I aren't in the best shape and we made it by taking a few photo stops, pick raspberries, and enjoy the sights along the way. Took us about 3 hours with frequent stops to admire the scenery (and catch our breath). This is a great alternative to the packed busses and canned sightseeing excursions if you enjoy being in nature. Some really pretty countryside with many viewing points overlooking the fjord along the way. This whole area is used to graze goats and sheep so you will likely hear bells through the trees if you listen closely.

This is a good choice coming from a cruise ship if you are looking for a workout and don't want to pay for a tour. There are two different paths to start the hike, either to the right or left from the cruise ship dock. To the right is a bit flatter, adds about half a mile, and has more open views. The left is steeper winding up through some homes. Both routes come together about halfway up. I'd advise going to the right on the way up, and then do the steeper part on the descent. The "trail" is a paved road at the start, becoming dirt about a third of the way, and the final hundred yards is a true trail. Its forested, pretty, and shaded, but the trees limit the views while walking. The viewpoint itself is good, but mostly because the fjords themselves are so pretty. I didn't feel that I got a significantly different view from the viewpoint than the other spots in the area. The attraction here is that is a good workout hike, and costs nothing, but it's probably not the most spectacular thing to do in Olden. It's about 6mi RT, with 1,300ft of elevation gain. The climb is very evenly spaced.

This is the reward for a fairly long hike (4 km one way) in the town of Olden. The view at the top is fantastic, but it will likely take you longer than you would think to make it up. Most of it is on roads, either paved or gravel, but you're going up 400 meters too, so it is all at a decent incline. (Presumably a 10% grade based on the math, but it felt like more.) The views along the hike are all pretty much what you'll see at the top because this is a switchback up one side of the mountain. They just get more impressive as you go. What I enjoyed most about the hike was all the tiny waterfalls throughout though-- you are almost always within hearing range for one.
