This was an amazing addition to our adventures on the fjords of Norway. We visited Olden & Loen as part of a cruise, and when we saw the skylift simply had to book it. We booked independently and so upon leaving the ship simply had to look out for the staff from the company to direct us - easy peasy! A short bus ride to Loen saw us at the foot of the cable car which takes you up to over 1000m. It’s quite exhilarating to step outside and see snowcapped mountains and the true majesty of the fjords. Honestly, I think this was one of the most spectacular views I have ever seen! There’s a little cafe & gift shop by the terrace looking out over nordfjord & olden, and a restaurant downstairs with spectacular views. I’d also recommend taking proper hiking shoes as there is the potential to climb further up - however, as I learned the hard way, sneakers won’t give you the grip you need to climb in the snow. I was gutted at my lack of forethought as I would have loved to climb to the top… next time! Overall a wonderful day, and highly recommended if you’re in the area.

Yes, it is quite expensive. And yes, the ascent last only 5 minutes. Still... With these 5 expensive minutes you have access to a world of wonder at the top of the mountains around Loen, giving you access to magnificently breathtaking vistas, unique landscapes and a number of walking paths. The paths are quite varied, with difficult degree of difficulties and good for pretty much everybody (with the exception of a couple of slightly more demanding ones). The short guide to the different walking paths is available at the ticket counter. It makes sense to come reasonably early in the morning and spend time wandering on the top. The restaurant offers a good selection as well. Overall, it is definitely worth it.

This was an awesome experience for the whole Family. My wife is afraid of heights and is scared of these lifts, but this one was so steady that she didn’t mind it at all. Once up there, the terrace area is perfect for the kids as it’s in an enclosed area that they can run and play with the snow. There’s also another section opened that lets you experience the snow covered mountain in the open. We’ve seen plenty of great views in Norway but that’s usually after driving hours and trekking For a long time, however this lift takes 7 minutes to go from the fjord straight to the top and the views from above are absolutely breathtaking, I’m glad we went up and would advise anyone considering it to do the same.

The Loen skylift is a must. Well worth the price. I'm not a fan of heights. The skylift wasn't bad. If you are apprehensive about riding it, because of your fear. You should make yourself go on it. I'm glad I pushed myself. The ride is slow and smooth. The views are amazing. Up top they have hiking trails behind the building if you are adventurous and can handle the walk up a steep hill. There is a mountain road you can bike down. A giant steel horseshoe, great for pictures. The building has an observation deck hanging over the edge. Inside is a nice dining area with a bar. It was very windy and cold on top of the mountain. Snow was present. Have fun on your journey to the top.

This is a must do, even on a cloudy day. Excellent views down onto the fjord and lakes beyond. We walked up to the viewpoint at Skredfjellet. This took 35 minutes from the top station along a decent path. You could probably get a robust pushchair along it but not a wheelchair. The path is well cairned and is marked as Walk No. 2 on the hiking map you can get from the gondola station. The gondola goes every half hour and an adult ticket cost approx. £50. Definitely worth the money. The ticket also allowed us to get a free shuttle bus from the Loen gondola station back to Olden.

We took this excursion from a local company at the pier. We tried multiple times to book this online, but the web page could not be displayed across several devices. The trip on the bus was less than 10 minutes. As we had a very overcast day, there was no wait to get into the gondola. Nice pics on the way up, but once we got to the top it was totally overcast. We sat in the restaurant and had a drink (you cannot order food at all tables).
