The museum is not big; do not expect much of it :) the exhibition inside the main building is small and devoted to the customs, cultural and free time of ordinary people in the late XIX and XX centuries. The exhibition outside shows a dozen of wooden houses; the oldest is more than 500-year-old. The ticket includes a guided tour. There is also a path for hiking along the beautiful lake. The personnel was really friendly to us and we did enjoy the time there...

Excellent information tour. Our guide Mr. Sigurd was very helpful with facts about Norwegian life from 1500s till early 1900s. The houses are interesting glimpse into the hard life in cold country.

Special mention for Mr. Sigurd’s tips on things around Forde. All his recommendations about viewpoints and attractions...

Unfortunately this was not good experience. We did come at 16:15 and they told us they do not doing guided tour after 16, thats fine we do not need that. Beautiful pearl of a place that you can walk about all day with your family. Learn about oldtime life in Norway, take a nature hike and learn about the local fauna and animals, greet the goats, or take a swim in the beautiful lake. They sell the best sorbet I have ever tasted, souvenirs and coffee/sodas.

Nice setting for old buildings. Not worth as main point of interest but definitely worth visiting if you are in the area. It is a member of Sign of Fjordane museums and if you buy Museums Pass you can visit this and another eleven museums in the area for free. Pass is not expensive.

We really enjoyed our visit to this museum. Definitely worth to take the tour inside the houses! They have so many interesting objects and the explanation of the tour guide was really good! The houses are well preserved and they give a good idea of how times used to be back then :)
