Gaustabanen has a very nice parking lot. You go there by car and then buy tickets for the train. The train is very nice and compact. It has 3 to 4 compartments with around 4 seats inside. Get the return ticket if you want. You can scan it on the entry and then sit in the first train. That takes you to the next stop inside the tunnels. The next train is fun. It runs on a 39 deg incline and takes you directly to the top. The view from the top is breath taking as usual. The whole train journey is inside a very old tunnel. Its worth the experience. Down at the gaustabanen, there is a gift shop with coffee and hot chocolate.
Enjoy your visit to legendary Gaustatoppen with super friendly and fun...

the tickets are super expensive: You can take the train up, and walk down but never do it in winter without proper shoes, They dont tell you while buying a ticket so that you will need to buy a new ticket from top to down, So if you want to take the train down as well than buy a 2 - way ticket.
If you want to walk all the way up then i recommend walking up from the other parking since its less steeper than from here.
We took the train up and It took us about 1.5 hours to only get down as we are used to hiking, it usally takes 2-3...
