تعدّ مدينة نزوى العمانية التي احتفل بها هذا العام عاصمة للثقافة الإسلامية مستودعا للتراث الإنساني، ومثلت مركزا للحكم والعلم ومركز إشعاع حضاري لقرون.

فالعمانيون يحبون أن يطلقوا علي نزوى "بيضة الإسلام"، واختار لها السلطان قابوس بن سعيد اسم مدينة العلم والتراث، واكتسبت الاحتفالات باختيارها عاصمة للثقافة الإسلامية زخما كبيرا، وهو ما جعل مثقفين ومفكرين يدعون لتعميم تجربة التعريف بالتاريخ والثقافة العمانيين لتشمل مدنا عمانية أخرى لا تقل أهمية، وكان لها دور بارز في الجهاد والدعوة والعلم.
