Drive to Nizwa and visit Wadi Tanuf, where you not only find some fresh cool waters but also a quiet spot to camp and barbecue besides the mountainous terrains. Located at the foot of Jabal Al Akhdar, around 20 km behind Nizwa, is Tanuf village. From Muscat, drive to Nizwa and then straight towards Hamra. Tanuf is one of Oman’s most historical villages between two of the biggest cities Nizwa and Bahla in Al Dakhiliya governate. Tanuf is famous for the drinking water brand, bottled in a factory near the Wadi of Tanuf but it was also famous for the history it beholds in the ruins of the village. At the base of the mountains, old town of Tanuf is located at the edge of Jabal Akhdar near Wadi Tanuf. It is almost 20 km away from Nizwa, coming from Muscat is about 150 KM away, which calls for a fun day trip of exploration. The large town of Tanuf is hard to miss when approaching Wadi Tanuf and it carries a vague history. Before Oman’s renaissance, these ruins were fully functional all the way to 1950s. It has been recorded that the town was bombed and destroyed by the British in 1954-1955 in a collision against the disputant Beni Riyam...

Wadi Tanuf is a breathtaking natural escape in Oman, surrounded by stunning mountains that create a dramatic and serene landscape. The wadi offers a mix of rocky terrain, flowing water (seasonal), and lush greenery, making it a great spot for adventure seekers and nature lovers.

To fully explore the area, a 4WD vehicle is highly recommended, as some parts of the wadi have rough and uneven paths. The journey is absolutely worth it, as you'll be rewarded with incredible views, fresh air, and a peaceful atmosphere away from the city.

Whether you're into hiking, off-road driving, or simply enjoying Oman’s natural beauty, Wadi Tanuf is a must-visit destination. Just make sure to bring plenty of water and be prepared for some...

Wadi tanuf is approximately 160 km from muscat City and 30 km from nizwa. It is located before Al hamra and very close to Al hoota caves. This Village Tanuf is mostly known for the mineral water bottling plant producing Tanuf and Jabel Akhdar brands. However, behind the water bottling plant u can find the big wadi flows but only during the rainy season. During my trip today we enjoyed the big flow of Wadis. It is the good place for off road adventures and some deep poles are there to take swimming. There is a lot of adventure in this area. Green village at the end of the track worth the effort. Many ancient forts are close to this area. This area is totally good for...

Wadi tanuf is next to tanuf castle ruins which is located between Nizwa and Bhala. On the way back from Jabel shams i have been there. It's a perfect place to take a bath in fresh spring water. The day before I went there was a heavy rain and due to that whole wadi was muddy. But still clear water flows through the channel above the wadi. Have to cross the wadi by 4x4 vehicle to reach the best part of this.

Nice views, a lot of green trees and bushes, rarely seen in other wadis. The water is only at the entrance of Wadi (close to damb) but no water further in the Wadi. Which is strange, we came just a week after heavy rains. Also this Wadi is crowded, a lot of family picknics. Which is good, just don't expect privacy.
