Al Suwayq Castle was built around 1620 by the Portuguese. After they were forced out of Oman the castle kept its strategic use.
Al Suwayq Castle has a rectangular ground plan with 2 courtyard. The ground level of the southern enclosure is higher than the northern one. The castle is equipped with 3 round corner towers, one square corner tower and a rectangular keep. It is situated only some 200 meters from the sea.

Read moreThis is an awesome historical location to visit. Unfortunately I had the chance to visit at night and didn't had much chance to take pictures but managed to snap some quick clicks. It's an amazing spot if you wanna enjoy some calm cool breeze at night, away from traffics and all the noises, maybe get a rocking chair and relax. But be aware of the shipping timings since it's a harbour port. And watch out for crabs/scorpion...
