Jebel Akhdar, also known as the Green Mountain, is a mountain range in the Hajar Mountains of Oman. It is located about 150 kilometers from Muscat and is accessible only by four-wheel drive. The range is mostly desert, but at higher altitudes receives around 300 mm of precipitation annually, which is moist enough to allow the growth of shrubs and trees and support agriculture. This is what gives the mountains their "green" name.
The Saiq Plateau, at 2,000 meters above sea level, is the most popular part of Jebel Akhdar. It is a labyrinth of wadis and terraced orchards, where pomegranates, apricots and roses grow in abundance. There are also several villages on the plateau, as well as a number of hotels and resorts.
Jebel Akhdar is a popular destination for hiking, camping, and rock climbing. There are also a number of viewpoints on the plateau that offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
The best time to visit Jebel Akhdar is during the spring (March-April) or fall (September-October), when the weather is mild and the flowers are in bloom. However, the mountains can be visited year-round.
