While the road towards the valley is difficult, where one might get numb after 30 minutes, the view of the valley is worth every second of pain you bear to get there. Take headache medicine with you. Basho remains the best part of my trip in Skardu. The overall ride takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes and can only be done on a 4x4 vehicle. The 4x4 jeeps are readily available and charge from 8k-10k depending on how hard you can bargain.
Also, you will see many kids waving at you while going up there which warms one's heart. Suggestion, take a packet of candies with you to give them.
The valley has many parts, but the closest to the gate remains the most vibrant. There are goats, sheep, and cows roaming around while water flows, which leaves you mesmerized. Camps are available for spending the night.
There are no washrooms available en route to the valley (last you will get is a few km away from the starting point of 4x4 where a masjid is being developed), but once you get there, they are easily findable, though they are just okay in terms of hygiene. Take soap and sanitizer with you.
There are multiple restaurants available that offer karahi (yak, mutton, chicken), daal (mash and channa), and a few more items. We had lunch at Shinwari Restaurant, where we ordered chicken karahi and daal channa. The taste of karahi was really delicious with a good amount of boneless chicken. The food becomes tastier as you can sit by the lake with a cold breeze coming and eat piping hot food.
There are small trekking places from where you can view the whole valley at once. Moreover, a few fruit vendors have created small caves that are extremely cold, where you can sit and enjoy fruits.
The people there are very welcoming and make you feel very nice.
In all, Basho Valley is an exquisite retreat that effortlessly sweeps away all worries. Its stunning vistas, meandering river, and majestic mountains create an enchanting ambiance that makes you forget everything. The valley's natural beauty is a masterpiece that leaves you breathless, providing a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of...

From the moment we entered the valley, we were surrounded by towering pine trees, crystal-clear streams, and snow-capped peaks that looked like something out of a dream.
Traveling with kids can sometimes be challenging, but Basho Valley turned out to be incredibly family-friendly. The wide open spaces gave our children the freedom to explore nature, run through meadows, and play by the riverbanks without a care in the world. It was heartwarming to watch them marvel at butterflies, skip stones in the water, and build little forts with sticks and stones—simple joys that we often miss in city life.
We stayed in a cozy guesthouse with stunning views and warm hospitality. The locals were kind and welcoming, always ready with a smile and a story. Evenings by the bonfire were especially memorable—sharing laughter, sipping tea, and watching the sky light up with stars.
The clean air, serene environment, and the natural beauty of Basho Valley offered a much-needed reset for all of us. It was a rare chance to reconnect as a family, surrounded by the wonders of nature.
