This family park was developed in 1914 in the rule of British India. It was developed in the memomry of outgoing Colonel Sir Henry McMahon, the British commissioner. However after creation of Pakistan, it was named Fatima Jinnah Park. • Following para has been taken from Annual Report of Balochistan-1914. • "The need for a public park and recreation ground at Quetta has been felt for sometime past, but, as the Quetta Municipality was not in a financial condi tion to meet the large expenditure necessarily involved in the acquisition of land and water for such a park, no definite proposal could be made. Owing to the continued extension of the station, and the rapid taking up of all open spaces in the vicinity of the town for building purposes, the question became acute in 1913-14, from a sanitary point of view . The Government of India having been approached on the subject, generously sanctioned a grant of Rs. 56,000 to the Quetta Municipality for the acquisition of land and water in March 1914. On the transfer of the Hon'ble SirHenry MoMahon, G. C. V.O., K C.I.E., C.8.I., his many friends started collecting subscriptions to perpetuate his memory in some suitable way, and, by common consent, a portion (Rs. 13,456) of the funds thus collected was utilised for the laying out of the park, which has been named the McMahon Park .
