The Gulmit in Upper Hunza is home to the magnificent Ondra Poygah staircase at about 3 hours drive from Gilgit City. It is more over 4 km long and rises to 1560 meters. It was constructed by residents of the area in under 60 days between the winter of 2020–2021. It is thought to be the tallest and longest stairway in Pakistan, with 1,655 stone and mud steps. The Wakhi word "Poygah" means steps, while the name "Ondra" references to the historic fort at the top. Location and Accesibility Starting Point: The trail begins in Gulmit village, Gojal Valley (Upper Hunza). How to Reach: - From Gilgit: 3–4 hours via Karakoram Highway to Gulmit. - From Karimabad: 1.5–2 hours by car. - From Islamabad: 18–20 hours by road, or a 1-hour flight to Gilgit plus drive. Tips for Tourists 1. Start your hike early morning or late afternoon to avoid harsh sun. 2. Wear sturdy shoes – the trail has uneven steps and gravel. 3. Carry water and light snacks – there are no stalls on the way up. 4. Mobile signals (Zong, SCOM) are available but patchy.51. Evenings get chilly – pack a light jacket even in summer. 5. Respect local customs while passing through Gulmit village. Things to do at Ondra Poygah 1. Hiking 2. Photography 3. Sunrise & Sunset Viewing 4. Stargazing 5. Cultural Interaction

Good local place for hike and view of Passu and Attabad lake. It was made by local community and have 1650 steps till Top of Mountain with 100 RS PKR Ticket from start and 100 PKR Parking Fee. It have total 6 stops in different locations and have ruins on Top which is almost none.

Best for trekkers and for those who wish to perfect photographs of Passu Cones. The trek took 45 mints to climb 1650 stairs to reach up there. There is no such a place for deep rest and refreshment. Carry water with yourselves.

Words simply fall short when it comes to describing the breathtaking view this place offers. It’s one of those rare spots where nature puts on a show so stunning, you feel like you've stepped into a postcard—or maybe even a dream. Pictures don’t do it justice, and no matter how many stories you hear, nothing compares to standing there and taking it all in for yourself.

Whether you're a nature lover, a photographer, or just someone looking to escape the ordinary for a while, this view will leave a lasting impression. As you stand there, surrounded by beauty in every direction, there's a moment of silence that washes over you—not because it's quiet, but because you're in awe. Time slows down. You breathe deeper. You smile wider.

The colors shift with the time of day—sunrise bathes the landscape in golden light, while sunset sets everything ablaze with hues of orange, pink, and purple. And if you’re lucky enough to catch it after a light rain, the clouds add a dramatic flair that turns the entire scene into a masterpiece.

This isn’t just a place you visit—it’s an experience that stays with you long after you’ve left. We highly recommend seeing it for yourself. And when you do, we’d love to hear what it meant to you. Every visitor sees it differently, and every perspective adds something special.

So pack your bags, bring your camera, and let this view speak to your soul. Then come back and share your story with us—we can't wait to hear how...

The place is almost 24 hours open as this is a natural site and has no gate/boundary.

Road to Parking is fine but twisty with blind turns, so drive safely. Parking is enough for 10+ cars and is safe. Ticket price is affordable and staff is polite and kind.

Wear hiking shoes, hat/cap in summer/winter.

Trek is moderately difficult for beginners. It is wide enough at most places and never narrow for two persons passing. Steps are wide enough and offer comfortable height at most places.

View and Rest Points offer benches without back support and offer great views. Rest Points can accommodate 10-15 persons comfortably.

Follow sign boards/check points to each safely on top and avoid shortcuts.

The remains on top are not great but the view compensates very justly, and hike is great...
