National Assembly of Pakistan — Attraction in Zone 1

The National Assembly or Aiwān-e-Zairīñ (in Urdu) is the lower legislative house of the bicameral Parliament (Majlis e Shoora) of Pakistan. As per Article 51 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, it has total 336 seats. The members of National assembly are called as Member National Assembly (MNAs). A political party must secure 172 seats out of 336 to obtain and preserve a majority. National assembly term is for 5 years once formed unless and otherwise dissolved. Out of 336 total seats 266 are directly elected by people under universal adult suffrage; 60 are reserved for woman; and 10 for minorities.

Seats in National Assembly are allocated to each province and the capital on the basis of population of that province in last census. Only members of the National Assembly can enter and sit in the main Assembly hall. Guests can see proceedings of the Assembly from galleries. However, it is a bit cumbersome procedure to get permission to enter this building.
