Metropolitan Natural Park Visitor Center — Attraction in Ancón

The paths are exceptionally well-kept, making for a pleasant and easy trek. ​The 5km trail is the perfect length for a short, invigorating hike. It's not just a flat, monotonous walk either; the terrain offers a wonderful variety, from gentle inclines to more challenging sections, keeping the experience engaging and fun. I was so impressed by the reverence for the environment here. It's a true testament to the park's staff and visitors that such a beautiful, biodiverse space is so well-preserved. ​Walking through the forest, you'll be treated to stunning views of the city skyline peeking through the canopy, a truly unique juxtaposition of nature and civilization. The air is fresh, the sounds of the city fade away, and you're surrounded by the sights and sounds of the jungle. As we wound up our month-long visit to Panama, I was bemoaning the fact that although we had seem many species of birds and animals, I had yet to see a Toucan, and it wasn't likely to happen, but I didn't feel that the wish warranted a costly tour with a birding guide. In a last-ditch effort to check the bird off my list, we took an early morning Uber to Metropolitain Park on the off change that we could make it happen. At the park, we not only saw the elusive Toucan, but we saw many other species of birds, and had the rare experience of seeing a 3-toed sloth descend to the ground for its weekly constitutional and then climb back up into the tree. Our success was primarly due to the friendly and patient assistant of the park staff. Most notably, a ranger named Ezquiel took the time to point out various animals (including the sloth, a monkey and an agouti), and to give us invaluable clues as to where to finally spot the Toucan. Si estas de visita en la ciudad de Panamá y quieres hacer algo de ejercicio caminando rodeado por la naturaleza, este es el lugar correcto.

El parque cuenta con excelente infraestructura, baños, salas para reuniones, ranchos y lo mejor es que está cerca de la ciudad y para cualquier accidente tienes acceso rápido a los centros de atención médica.

📍 ¿Cómo llegar? El Parque Natural Metropolitano está ubicado a solo 10 minutos del centro de la Ciudad de Panamá.

🚗 En auto: puedes llegar desde Vía Centenario o desde la Avenida La Amistad (cerca del área de Albrook). Cuenta con estacionamiento para visitantes.

🚇 En metro: la estación más cercana es Estación 5 de Mayo (Línea 1), desde allí puedes tomar un taxi o bus hacia el parque.

🚌 En bus: rutas de MiBus que pasan por Curundú y Albrook te dejan cerca del parque. Una ruta de buses te deja directamente en el PNM y hay otra que te puede dejar en el DOMO de la Univerisad de Panamá (caminar luego 200metros)

La entrada principal está bien señalizada, y hay seguridad en la garita.

🧭 Datos históricos únicos ¿Sabías que este parque fue una base militar estadounidense?

Durante el siglo XX, el área fue utilizada por el ejército de EE. UU. para probar motores de aviones. Aún puedes encontrar:

Restos de aeronaves en el sendero La Cienaguita

Edificaciones militares como el Building 1002 y el Building 420, que hoy son parte del parque

Instalaciones antiguas usadas por la Embajada de EE. UU.

Desde 1993, estos terrenos fueron transferidos a Panamá y hoy forman parte del sistema de áreas protegidas urbanas del país.
