The Cocoli Locks are part of the Panama Canal Expansion Project, which doubled the capacity of the Canal by adding a new traffic lane, enabling more ships to transit the waterway, and increasing the width and depth of the lanes and locks, allowing larger ships to pass. The retention basins are also visible here. They save and recycle the water used in filling the lock chambers.

PROs: as a tourist attraction is always impressive to see a boat the size of a building crossing by. CONTRAs: The place has not been design to receive tourist jet. A good viewpoint has not been built and rain can make the experience not very pleasant. To see a boat you are conditioned to a daily schedule so it’s possible to go in a time where no boat is crossing.

Transiting the Panama Canal was an amazing experience. It took all day (from before sunrise until after sunset). Even though it is slow going for the ship there is so much to see and learn about. It had been crazy hot and the sun was very intense earlier in the day, by this time it was evening, cooler and raining hard. Had a wonderful time.

This is NOT a tourist attraction!!! Only Panama Canal employees can enter the facility. It might be nice to see from a cruise ship. Not possible to see from the land as the area is fenced and guarded. Extremely disappointed that I took an Uber to see this as there is nothing for the public to see from behind the fences and guard building. The security were very friendly. Glad they did not arrest me for being at a facility clearly not meant...

CROSSING through the Panama Canal was a great experience for me. It sure is a man made wonder of the world. Also very helpful for the shipping industry. It took the Cruise ship I was on 10 hrs to get from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. Loved every minute of it. Something I always wanted to do from a child in school. Finally I just got to do it and back home safe...
