We stayed at Casa Amaya to fully experience this incredible parque. At night, the wind whistles through the trees, and the river gurgles right by your cabin. We felt very safe and left the sliding glass door open so that we could hear all the nature sounds. It was just incredible. I’ve never been cold in Central America before so I don’t even bring long sleeves or pants, but it was quite a bit cooler at twilight here with the wind, and I had to wear my sun shirt (the only long sleeve I brought) just to be warm. My boyfriend wore his sweats and long sleeves a couple of times. When the sun is beaming down in the middle of the day, it’s warm but not hot. If you’re a hiker, you definitely want to come to Parque Nacional Altos de Campana. Read moreStunning views and amazing 1.30 min hike just a one hour drive from Panama city. Take the road to Chica, it has a lot of curves so be ware. There are different paths, we took one of the most challenging which is sendero la Cruz. It might be easier on dry season, but after rain it can be slippery. Some parts high up you have to hike with a cable (which is already there). The path is marked, although getting to the right path was difficult as we didn't understood the signs. There is a sign with the name of the sendero at the entrance of it. Then is straight forward, the trees are marked. I loved the trip and would go many more times, but maybe not if it rains too much...
Read moreGoogle maps takes you to the wrong location!! We ended up on a dirt road into a private property. In order to get to the park you have to search for the “parking at altos de Campana national park”. It will be through a town called Chica (it’s worth stopping at Panaderia de Montanera for empanadas).
My husband and I just wasted almost 45 minutes getting there because google maps led us the wrong way. Hoping to save you all the frustration because it’s worth the trip once you finally get there but we had to stop and ask several locals for the proper...
