DANGER: I asked one of the employees if the elevator ever had fallen (it looks terrifying from below). To my surprise she answered that only the cargo elevator had fallen - with one of the employees inside. This elevator is an absolute nightmare from a security perspective yet the charge 5 USD to ride it. Eventually it will fall and you don't want to be the one person dying that makes them finally fix the installation.
Generally everything looks run down and apparently no money goes to maintenance at all.
They don't accept cards and the nearest ATM is in downtown Ciudad del Este.
Go to Argentina instead. Paraguay is not really...

If you continue about 300 metres down the road you arrive at the park which is government run, also costs $12 & gives a close up view of the falls. It's worth paying 30,000 guarani more to take the elevator to the base of the falls. I used the stairs before for free but that's no longer allowed, You can get near the falls by bus from CDE. Read moreTotal rip off they charge $10 for americans which is 3x the price in local currency. Iguacu Falls is only about $4 more and far more impressive. No credit card swipe here either, so if you are coming from Brazil you need to exchange for local currency. Just walk up the road a bit you can see it just fine up there for FREE, unless if you value having the full experience of going on their elevator and steps. Beautiful waterfall though, definitely worth viewing from the street. You can also go to the park next door and even get a raft ride to the falls for just $8 which is a way...
