Islas ballestas paracas

Often dubbed the “Poor Man’s Galápagos,” which honestly feels rude to both parties, Islas Ballestas is where Peru shoves all its wildlife into one rock formation and lets nature scream. Getting there requires a bumpy boat ride across choppy waters where your main companions are other tourists, seagulls with attitude, and the creeping awareness that you forgot motion sickness pills.

Once you arrive..boom! chaos! Thousands of sea lions, Humboldt penguins, boobies, and birds with names you’ll instantly forget, all stacked onto jagged guano-covered rocks like they’re late for a casting call. The sound is somewhere between a frat party and a seagull uprising. The smell? Bold. Historic. Almost sentient.

You’ll also glimpse the mysterious Candelabra geoglyph etched into a hillside along the way.. a massive ancient symbol that might be a trident, a cactus, or an alien’s doodle from orbit. No one agrees. Conspiracy theorists, archaeologists, and bored boat captains all have different stories, and none of them make sense. Perfect.

Verdict: Islas Ballestas is part zoo, part natural concert, part ammonia-scented fever dream. Come for the penguins, stay for the sea lions fighting over a sunspot, and leave with at least one bird poop near miss and a whole new respect...

Las islas Ballestas son un grupo de islas cerca de la ciudad de Pisco. Están compuestas por formaciones rocosas donde se encuentra una importante fauna marina, con aves guaneras como el guanay, el piquero y el zarcillo principalmente. Se accede por vía marítima en lanchas acondicionadas para llevar grupos de pasajeros que abordan en el muelle de la Playa El Chaco, donde se puede contactar y pagar a los guías turísticos. El viaje dura de 1 a 2 horas dependiendo del estado del mar y la época que se visite, y las lanchas cuentan con toldos, asientos cómodos y chalecos salvavidas para todos...

Durante el trayecto hacia las islas se puede observar una figura enorme llamada El Candelabro, grabada en la arena y roca del desierto costero. Su origen sigue siendo un misterio: algunos creen que está relacionado con las Líneas de Nazca o con antiguos navegantes.
