My visit to Mariposario de Machupicchu left much to be desired, earning it a two-star rating. Despite the potential for a captivating experience, the butterfly sanctuary was disappointingly lacking in several aspects.
Firstly, the facility appeared poorly maintained, with signs of neglect evident throughout. The lack of upkeep detracted from the overall ambiance and diminished the potential beauty of the sanctuary.
Furthermore, the diversity of butterflies on display was underwhelming. With only a limited variety of species present, the experience felt somewhat lackluster and failed to fully showcase the wonders of these magnificent creatures.
Adding to the disappointment was the steep entrance fee of 20 soles per person. Considering the subpar maintenance and limited diversity of butterflies, the price felt excessive and did not align with the value offered by the experience.
In conclusion, while Mariposario de Machupicchu has the potential to be a captivating attraction, its current state leaves much to be desired. With improvements in maintenance, diversity of species, and pricing, it could offer a more rewarding experience...
Read moreBeautiful place where you can learn a lot on the conservation of the butterflies in the area. Highly recommend it if you're around Machu Picchu and want to learn. It is also very close to the Machu Picchu museum. I came here with my family and we all enjoyed it. Don't wear insect repellent when coming here.
Please be a bit patient with the tour guides and translation. I noticed that the people who give the bad reviews on google here are the tourists who think all guides should know how to speak english. Guess what, if you're coming to another country you should be patient and also learn how to speak the language of the country you're visiting. The guides are great with the teaching of the butterflies but english is not the best. The boards inside the teaching area are translated in english and that can help you.
The tour is free and note, each plant growing here requires special care and dedicated gardeners for them. The place is underfunded. My family and I left donations. Please ask to give a donation if you too appreciate the conservation work...
