It is worthwhile because it is a unique landscape feature with the oilbirds that navigate like bats and the cavern. Many steps up to the entrance. The Park is a nice natural reserve along the river with dense jungle vegetation, but not spectacular. Vendors occupy the whole entrance area, all selling the same stuff. Taxis back to town are well organized & helpful. Park guards are present and helpful, but not very knowledgeable of the park biology. Entrance for non-Peruvians is...

We arrived early in the morning, right when the national park opened, and had the whole place to ourselves for about 30 minutes. The walk to the cave was peaceful and quiet ~ Once inside the Cave of the Owls, the experience became visually and sonically intense. The sound of thousands of bats echoing through the darkness was haunting, powerful, and unforgettable. The cave full of insects and shifting shadows added to the mystery and atmosphere.
