Manantial de la Virgen — Attraction in Oxapampa

Good family destination. 3 medium sized "natural" stone/rock swimming/wading pools. The water IS COLD so be prepared. Tons of mosquitoes & other annoying insects so bring repellent & a long sleeve shirt. Lots of mini bus tours come here so it can get crowded at times. but it's a really nice place once their gone. Very peaceful and tranquil when there are not many tourists. Lots of butterflies of various shapes, species and sizes if you're a nature lover. It's about 5 Soles($1.25) for adults to enter. Kids under 4 enter free. The side with the Virgin Mantel is pretty as well but it has a lot more mosquitoes so bring bug repellent or a long sleeve shirt. There is a nice gift shop at the main entrance next to the parking area but like everything in life that's tourist related they jack up the prices. El manantial de la Virgen es ante todo un lugar para sanarse física y emocionalmente. El tipo de agua alcalina es fantástica para contrarrestar diversos males, por eso es considerada milagrosa. Hay otros tipos de curaciones y experiencias que se pueden tener allí. Lo negativo es que se está volviendo demasiado turístico y cuando yo fuí estaban los niños y jóvenes de un colegio local y también los combis de turismo quienes llenaron el manantial y entre gritos de los niños y los chapuzones de los mayores, no se podía gozar. Recomiendo que se ponga un límite de personas que pueden entrar y un tiempo determinado. No puede ser que el colegio se quede allí desde la mañana hasta la 1 PM. Felizmente llovió y eso hizo que el ambiente se limpiará y aproveché 15 minutos para deleitarme cuando no había nadie más.
