Catarata Huanano — Attraction in Surco

You can park for free in the town. In reality, there are really several water falls to visit, we saw only one but I am not sure how much it was to enter although I don't think it was expensive...we got there a little late in the day so we were the last "group" to make the trek up to those falls. Come prepared with plenty of water (you can purchase that & any snacks at any of tne little "tienditas" or stores in the town), good walking/climbing shoes & comfortable clothing...views are AMAZING all the way up the curvy, sometimes rocky, sometimes narrow & sometimes poopie trail 😣😄 (most likely from the few stray but well behaved dogs & the few donkeys we found off to the side of the trail). I HIGHLY recommend bringing bug repellant...we forgot ours but were told to crush the leaves of a feathery fern-like plant (sorry cannnot remember the name) that you will see pretty much everywhere along the path & rub the fragrant (almost citronelly) secretions on your arms & legs because it is a natural mosquito repellant. Unfortunately, I was the only one in my party that did not do this & later realized that I ended up with some SERIOUS monster sized bug bites...😕😥. Besides this, take your time & make sure to stop at the various "rest areas" to catch your breath since you will be at a higher altitude then normal...not as high as Cusco but higher then Lima (central city). Make sure to take lots of pics along the way & once you get there, too. And for around 15 soles there is even an opportunity to scale down the side of the waterfalls 👍😀. Even though it was their first time, my 13 & 10 year old (the youngest had a little help getting down) were able to do it with ease & was a great experience for them. La Catarata Huanano, es un atractivo natural que el viajero va a poder encontrar muy cerca de Lima. Se localiza en el distrito de San Jerónimo de Surco, y se encuentra en la provincia de Huarochirí al norte de Lima. Es una espléndida caída de agua aproximadamente 45 metros de altura. El agua de esta espléndida catarata se desplaza por las paredes rocosas hasta dar con una superficie casi plana conformada por piedras. Para poder conocer la Catarata el Huanano, el viajero puede optar por ir en auto, o acaso en algún bus turístico, actualmente existen diferentes empresas turísticas que ofrecen fulldays donde se incluyen las visitas a este recurso. Si el viajero es más aventurero, ir por cuenta propia también es una buen alternativa; aquellos deben tomar un autobús hacia Chosica, y desde este lugar ir en bus o en taxi hacia el distrito de San Jerónimo de Surco. En Chosica se pueden encontrar buses en el Parque Echenique. Ya en San Jerónimo de Surco, solamente es necesario seguir por un sendero peatonal que, en aproximadamente una hora lo conducirá hasta la Catarata Huanano. Hermoso y fantástico lugar cerca de Lima para un full day. La pasamos muy bien en la Catarata de Huanano en San Jerónimo de Surco. Como todo pueblo de la sierra tiene sus encantos y varias cosas que ofrecer. El camino a la catarata es algo dificultoso porque todo es cuesta arriba por un sendero y toma cerca de 1 hora llegar, en el camino hay un refugio techado para descansar con mesa y bancas. Cuando uno llega a la catarata el cansancio desaparecer y el entusiasmo de adueña de uno. El lugar es muy bonito, hay para hacer rapel con todas las medidas de seguridad y las fotos salen geniales. El tiempo se pasa volando sin que uno se de cuenta. Hay que llevar agua por el calor. De vuelta queda tiempo para almorzar, pasear por el pueblo y seguir tomando más fotos para el recuerdo. Uno puede tomar servicios de full day que hay varios o ir en movilidad propia. Por nuestro lado tomamos un servicio y nos olvidamos del trajín de manejar...
