What a magical and amazing place. We are so happy to have spent 4 days and 3 nights here. From the first contact, through our departure, we couldn't have been treated any better. Amazon Planet arranged our pickup at the bus station and return to the airport at no additional cost. The trip to the lodge was so beautiful travelling up the majestic Madre de Dios River. We arrived just in time for a delicious lunch.
Whether breakfast, lunch or dinner, they provided varied and very tasty meals. We always looked forward to the different treats they prepared in the kitchen. You won't go hungry here.
We booked the river view cabin, which was a modest upcharge and well worth it. The cabin was beautiful with a very comfortable bed. The cabin featured an inside and outside sitting area to watch the incredible Madre de Dios flow by. I highly recommend this cabin.
We had various tours with our guide Ivan who was remarkable, pointing out the different animal and plant life to us. If it was a nighttime trek or a daytime adventure, he would point out different animals or plants that we never would have seen. It was such a treat with Ivan, as he was full of knowledge of all the different species abound in the rain forest. He would whistle and make sounds to bring the animals closer. Thanks to Ivan, but to my partner's dismay, I've even learned how to whistle like a Toucan.
The excursions were just wonderful. I can't properly describe the excitement and feeling of seeing otters playing in the lake, or monkeys travelling above our heads in the treetops, or walking on the canopy walkway and having Toucans and Macaws fly right between us.
This is really a professional operation that looks out for its visitors. A really big thank you to Sandra, Ivan and the whole team who made our visit a truly spectacular adventure.
With that being said, tragically our bus journey from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado turned into a small nightmare. The bus driver fell asleep at the wheel and veered off the road into the trees of the jungle at 3am. I was thrown into the aisle and injured my head. A passing bus picked us up to continue our journey.
After advising the taxi driver I needed to go to the hospital, he called the Amazon Planet office. I spoke with Gelman who said he would coordinate with the taxi driver and also meet us at the hospital. Gelman accompanied me through all the different stations of the hospital and remaining with me to ensure I was properly looked after. This was a true godsend and I am forever thankful for his concern and care.
Afterwards, Gelman accompanied us into the city to pick up a change of clothes and necessary toiletries, as our luggage was still on the bus and unretrievable. Sandra also contacted me several times to ensure I was ok and properly being taken care of.
I can't stress enough, the genuine concern and care I was given by Gelman and Sandra. It was like family.
If you are headed to the Amazon, or even not, make sure you do make time to visit Amazon Planet. They are a true class act and the food, accommodation and excursions are 5-star. If you're fortunate to have Ivan as your tour guide, you will come out of the Amazon with a greater understanding of the entire forest and perhaps a new whistle or two.
I cannot recommend them enough. Not only on a professional level, but also on a human level. They deserve all the praise and positive reviews...
Read moreEverything about our adventure had gone ‘swimmingly’. Until “Amazon Planet”. Three days & 2 nights encompassed less than 43 hours on site. That is less than 2 days (48 hours). We arrived at the lodge around 2 pm on Wednesday. We were removed from the compound on Friday at 8:30 am (app). Upon arriving at the office we enjoyed a 7 hour wait for our flight. The Aussie fellow who I presume owns & operates “Amazon Planet” was less than gracious with his ‘sorry-about-your-luck’ apology. He blamed both carriers, “Peru For Less” and “Bomba” for not informing their clients of the normal, early lodge departure and prolonged airport wait. Our first opportunity to speak to a representative of “Amazon Planet” was at the office. One & ½ hours by boat from the lodge. We were advised to take a cab into town (at our expense) and enjoy lunch at a very expensive restaurant they recommended (at our expense) and they would have us picked up there and deposited at the airport! Not only was our experience misrepresented time-wise, we were part of a group of 8 and sometimes 9 people per guide. Our guide was a lovely, knowledgeable, soft spoken fellow named JULIO. Our group was so large that some people missed the info and had a chance to take a brief look before they had to run to catch up and miss the next exposition. These groups should be limited to 4 or 5 persons like others that we saw at the lodge. Perhaps the most offensive aspect of this ‘eco-friendly’ company, “Amazon Planet” was the garbage on the office property. Particularly annoying was the large discarded, plastic pale half buried in the mud on the bank...
Read moreThis was an amazing experience and my favorite part of our 2 week trip to Peru. We did the 4 night stay and did all the activities. Our guide Luis was super friendly and answered all of our questions. He went out of his way to make sure our experience was a great one. They fed you three full meals a day. Breakfast had eggs, bread, fruit, and cereal. Both lunch and dinner was very filling and the food was fresh and healthy and both came with dessert. I began to love Peruvian cuisine because of this place. They also have a bar with delicious drinks. Yes, they turn off the electricity because they run on generators. However, the electricity is usually turned off when you are off on an activity or asleep. The accommodations were very comfortable, however you have to remember that you are staying in the middle of the jungle and 90 minutes away from the city, so you're not going to have 5-star resort accommodations. My favorite part was spending time with the family from the Ese-Eja tribe. I also loved going up the suspension bridge to the tree tops to take a view from a top of the jungle. There was not one activity that I did not love. If you just want a place where you can have Wi-Fi and play on your phone all day and watch TV and have the same food and drinks at home, this is not the place for you. If you truly want a vacation and a break from everything and experience the Amazon with friendly people and everything taken care of you, then I would recommend booking...
