Although it has a nice view over Yarinacocha and some nice plant life to see, the animals here look poorly taken care of. For example, two massive boa constrictors are sharing a small enclosure with just one little pond and nothing else in it. One boa is so big that I doubt it could fully stretch out in that enclosure. It would be better if these animals could move around more freely. There were also quite a few dead fish floating in other aquatic enclosures. Sadly this reflects the low level of care that many people have for animals here.
Further, the majority of the animals here are chickens, which is nothing special... I mean, they're not even wild animals. I was told by my guide that recently authorities from Lima removed many of the animals that were here for ethical issues (I am thankful for that).
This place needs a lot of maintenance, repairs, and proper cleaning. They also try to attract people to this place with a pool and broken trampoline, included in the entry price. The pool, didn't look well balanced with chemicals for safety. Entrance to this so-called "conservation and rescue centre" is 10 soles per person and the walk around the place takes 5 minutes. I do not think it should be called a conservation or rescue centre at all, considering the conditions of the animals. As other reviewers also say, they probably don't even rescue these animals but buy them for this place to seem legit. It really shouldn't even be legal but animal ethics laws are pretty much non existent. I hope this place can change its ways and become better so people can actually enjoy seeing native animals from the jungle and help boost the economy in Yarinacocha, because they really need a better economy anyway. A little improvement could go a long way here...
Read moreThis is a tourist trap. The food is going to give you gastrointestinal issues. The hot food is cold and very expensive. The 10 animals they have look barely alive and poorly kept. Second when you take boat over it costs 25 sol. The return will cost twice as much because you have no options. It would be better to spend your money just taking a trip on the river and...
Read moreIf you are sensitive about animal cruelty and abuse better avoid this place. The animals are so sad, neglected and in very small dirty cages that it broke my heart. Apparently they are all bought not rescued. I run out of there not being able to take photos or look any more. Not sure how this place...
