As we stepped into our 23rd church of the year, St. Martin of Tours Parish in Bocaue, Bulacan, I knew this wasn’t just another Sunday visit—it was something deeper. This church is home to the revered Mahal na Poon ng Krus sa Wawa, a centuries-old wooden cross believed by many to be miraculous.
The moment we entered, we could feel the strong devotion surrounding the shrine. My daughters, usually playful, grew quiet as they looked at the blackened cross enshrined near the altar, a symbol of healing and protection deeply rooted in local faith. Every July, the cross is honored in the Bocaue River Festival, where it’s carried in a pagoda procession along the river—a spectacle of faith that draws thousands.
But even without the festival, the presence of the Poon was powerful. People came with prayers for healing, safe travels, and family intentions. We lit our candles, offered our quiet petitions, and took a moment to reflect.
